What motivated you to start DJing/presenting?

I have been DJ’ing on and off since 1991 cutting my teeth on jungle and breakbeat. This all started off as a hobby and got involved with a pirate radio station.

Everything went on a pause until 1998 after a move to the north east and I started a residency in a club called Biancos, where I would do a solo slot on a Tuesday and combined on a Saturday in the main room. Quit this residency at the end of 2000 to concentrate on career and family.

Decided to put the headphones back on in may 2018 and started to share recorded mixes on Mixcloud for a few work mates, soon I was gaining a lot of followers and started on an internet radio station called Quest in August 2018.

What styles do you play?

I mainly play all house Sub Genres, specialising in Vocal House, Nu Disco, Soulful/Funky and Tech House, but can also play classic house/trance, Jungle, breakbeat.

Do you mix or scratch or both? Or are you more of a presenter?

I concentrate more on mixing than anything else, with my transitions between songs based on where possible harmonic and lengthy.

Do you play on just one of danceradiouk.com’s stations or both?

Just Dance UK

Outside of danceradiouk.com, who are your favourite DJ’s, bands or music artists and how have they influenced your style (if they have)?

I am a big fan of all types of music, whilst at work you can normally catch me listening to a lot of mixcloud shows to catch up on new and old tunes. I wouldn’t say any one DJ has influenced my style, I have played a similar style since my early days on belt drive turntables through to todays technology. I am trying new tricks out with my set up and so in a way still learning.

What other interests do you have besides DJing/presenting on the radio?

With a full time job and a small child under 2 I have very little downtime, when I do and I’m not catching up on music I watch a lot of films or try and get on my PS4.

Favourite things?

Music, Marvel, Lasagne/Pizza, Coffee (lots of on certain days)

Sum yourself up in a sentence?

I like to think that I am an easy person to approach and have a strong sense of loyalty.

What motivated you to start DJing/presenting?

I think it was when I used to listen to all the pirate radio stations that were on during the 1980’s. I bought some turntables and a mixer from Tandy, my love of music started along with the buzz of buying new vinyl. I was hooked!

What styles do you play?

I love all types of house music but my go to music is deep house with some tech and normal house music thrown in.

Do you mix or scratch or both? Or are you more of a presenter?

I’ve never really mastered scratching at all but I love to mix all my music and of coarse don’t mind interacting with the audience.

Do you play on just one of danceradiouk.com’s stations or both?

Just one station at the moment, Dance UK along with a weekly stint on Release FM.

Outside of danceradiouk.com, who are your favourite DJ’s, bands or music artists and how have they influenced your style (if they have)?

My favourite DJ’s are Sasha and Digweed. I bought a mix CD from Camden market many years ago and could not believe the mixing from track to track, its was mind blowing and after much research I found that they were mixing all the music harmonically. I try to replicate this in my sets and sometimes I’m able to do this (although not to their standard!). Musically they have played a big part in my style of mixing.

What other interests do you have besides DJing/presenting on the radio?

I enjoy fishing and I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to do this all over the world including Thailand just a few months ago.

Favourite things?

My laptop and my DJ equipment, but not as much as my girlfriend and my cat. (She made me put that last bit!)

Sum yourself up in a sentence?

I’m very hardworking and loyal but music is my passion, whether it’s mixing or just chilling out listening to music.

Your desert island discs?

It would have to be anything with Sasha and Digweed remixing or DJing

What motivated you to start DJing/presenting?

Ohh many years ago now I walked passed a DJ shop and they had this great window display with lights and DJ equipment, so I went in. I was in there for over an hour looking at all their lights and equipment and got talking to the owner where I found out he was recruiting DJs to work as a mobile DJ. They would go to the venue and set up and the DJ would simply turn up and play their CD’s, yes CD’s it was back then haha. I loved it. Since then I’ve never looked back and have this passion for music. So that’s how I got into DJing. I have also been presenting on another station playing Dance remixes which all my shows are uploaded to my Mixcloud page.

What styles do you play?

I play the commercial Dance Remixes on my Show with Old Skool Dance Anthems, but I also do love Trance music especially Vocal Trance.

Do you mix or scratch or both? Or are you more of a presenter?

Don’t do scratching but I mix once I start talking I can’t stop.

Do you play on just one of danceradiouk.com’s stations or both?

I only play on Dance UK but I do have podcasts on my Mixcloud and play 80s &90s music also on Mixcloud.

Outside of danceradiouk.com, who are your favourite DJ’s, bands or music artists and how have they influenced your style (if they have)?

I have been to see Faithless and loved it, my favourite DJ is Armin van Buuren. Armin is a real influence In my music as some of the Vocal Trance he plays is just so uplifting.

What other interests do you have besides DJing/presenting on the radio?

I go to the gym 3 times per week and like to relax when I can with a good box set or Netflix. Also getting out to the coast for nice walks and love a good drive out. This sounds like a dating site!

Love fast cars, listening to music, love buying watches, decent clothes, trainers, favourite holiday was Aiya Napa Clubbers capital. Favourite lager Fosters.

What motivated you to start DJing/presenting?

I was actually picked up by a local DJ at the age of 18 when he heard a mix tape of Chicago House whilst I was buying food at a road side burger van of all places. He was standing by my car listening, dressed in a white suit and I thought he was trying to nick my car until he revealed who he was. He offered me an opportunity to become a trainee DJ and I ended up with a residency which lasted 3 years. Pirate radio was the natural progression during the early 90’s and didn’t really look back.

What styles do you play?

I started out playing with house and club classics for several years before migrating to Trance in 1994. I’ve played every style of trance over a 12 year period including Euphoric, Italian Hardstyle and Psytrance. From 2006 I crossed over into minimal techno, using my real name Colin Newbery to differentiate the music change. Over the years my style gradually crossed genre boundaries to form a more deep tech progressive sound. I’ve now gone full cycle and back spinning Trance showcasing the first decade from 1991 in my Euphoric Evolution shows using my original Twync name.

Do you mix or scratch or both? Or are you more of a presenter?

Strictly mixing for me, I’m an avid vinyl collector and avoid scratched records. You make your conclusions from that.

Do you play on just one of danceradiouk.com’s stations or both?

Just Dance UK at present.

Outside of danceradiouk.com, who are your favourite DJ’s, bands or music artists and how have they influenced your style (if they have)?

I’ve always had a secret love for eighties synth bands and early electronic music growing up but no favourites in particular. Never really had a favourite DJ as I’ve met most whilst working as a music column journalist for a clubbing magazine during the nineties and the majority I met were so… how should I say egotistical? The best guys I met away from the decks were Carl Cox, Darren Pearce and John 00 Fleming, total legends.

What other interests do you have besides DJing/presenting on the radio?

I also produce music with several releases through Boomtic Records (plug plug) and my wife is a Techno DJ so music is always a major factor at home. Our Roberts radio is playing morning noon and night. We have a new home so plenty of blood, sweat and tears have gone into this over the last few years and oh yeah restoring our old Golf GTI sitting in the garage for the summer.

Favourite things?

My wife, my home, my life.

What motivated you to start DJing/presenting?

I have always loved a broad range of dance music, and was motivated to begin mixing by Matt Jay and other dj’s who thought I should give it a go when I was a listener on Danceradiouk back in 2014 and I caught the bug big-time!

What styles do you play?

I play a range of styles from Electro House to DnB to Happy Hardcore and like to be diverse and keep music fun.

Do you mix or scratch or both? Or are you more of a presenter?

I just mix, i wish i could scratch like Sy but unfortunately not.

Do you play on just one of danceradiouk.com’s stations or both?

I just play on the Dance channel as presenting is not my forte.

Outside of danceradiouk.com, who are your favourite DJ’s, bands or music artists and how have they influenced your style (if they have)?

So hard to pick favourites, I love The Prodigy, Hixxy, Vibes, Dj Ham, Dannic, Dj’s From Mars, even the occasional blast of classical music, Motown or cheesy 80’s.

What other interests do you have besides DJing/presenting on the radio?

I bake, cook and run round after the kids, and love a cheeky pint now and then when I’m not working.

Favourite things?

My favourite thing has to be my phone, couldn’t live without it!

Sum yourself up in a sentence?

Random, a little bit strange and cheeky sometimes.

Desert island discs would have to be Their Law – Prodigy, Bonkers 3, and maybe Pink – I’m Not Dead.

What motivated you to start DJing/presenting?

I started DJing as a fresh faced 16 year old all those years ago inspired by the explosion of 12″ singles and the idea of remixing tunes and making them sound completely different.

What styles do you play?

I tend to play more commercial styles of music – From rock to pop and everything else on Box UK and a tendency towards funky and commercial house on Dance UK.

Do you mix or scratch or both? Or are you more of a presenter?

I can mix, but not scratch.

Do you play on just one of danceradiouk.com’s stations or both?

I mainly play on Box UK, but have been known to get the old mixing fingers exercising every now and then on Dance UK.

Outside of danceradiouk.com, who are your favourite DJ’s, bands or music artists and how have they influenced your style (if they have)?

I have too many favourites to mention, though would have to say I love the Old Skool so Slipmatt and 2 Bad Mice are particular heroes. I also LOVE Moto Blanco!!

What other interests do you have besides DJing/presenting on the radio?

I am also interested in history and genealogy and have been known to be a bit geeky when it comes to technology.

Favourite things?

I like McDonald’s Big Tasty’s (Lifetime supply of freebies for the shout please).

Sum yourself up in a sentence?

I can touch the tip of my nose with my tongue.

Your desert island discs?

I wouldn’t have any desert island discs as I probably wouldn’t land on a desert island with a CD player. However if I had a desert island MP3 player it would have some Massive Attack – Unfinished Sympathy alongside Electronic – Getting away with it and plenty of Luther Vandross.

Anything else?

I am available for Live PA’s at weddings, birthdays and divorces.

What motivated you to start DJing/presenting?

Well…Initially I was lured by the flashing lights and loud music, by 8 years old, I knew it was what I wanted to do. We had a local mobile DJ who I thought was God at the time. I would pester him until he would let me start playing records, he obviously selected the songs and I pressed start and turned up the rotary faders! lol. I got my first set of decks for Christmas 1979, and by March 1980 aged just 9, I’d done my first school disco! I appeared to have a talent for making people dance and this made me more confident and happy, .by 14 I was doing regular gigs, cubs, scouts brownies, schools etc.

This is when I was heavily into vinyl, I had loads and they were everywhere all over my bedroom! lol. I left school and went to London and became a full time DJ, the pay was good but crap at the same time, but 3 gigs per day, 7 nights per week meant I did ok.

I started playing in clubs in London and started to learn how to mix, from there I went back to Devon and started playing in clubs around Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.
After many years of working around the country, I had built up a good rep in Coventry and was DJ’ing all over the city. That brought me into contact with Radio on Kix 96 FM this was 1999, I started doing live mixes at drive time on a Friday! Not much pressure! lol.

Also produced weekly dance mixes for their resident dance DJ too, and did live broadcasts from Mr G’s nightclub. Always been into Dance music.

What styles do you play?

Disco Soul/Funk, 70’s 80’s 90’s, acid house, piano house, vocal house, progressive house, hardcore/techno, pumping house, hard house, bassline house and funky house and trance, oh and commercial dance too, quite a wide range really!

Do you mix or scratch or both? Or are you more of a presenter?

I leave scratching to the pro’s that know what they are doing. I can hold a mix and can use a mic to whip the crowd into a frenzy, so bit of both I guess. hehe

Do you play on just one of danceradiouk.com’s stations or both?

Currently on Dance UK 🙂

Outside of danceradiouk.com, who are your favourite DJ’s, bands or music artists and how have they influenced your style (if they have)?

I guess my style comes from seeing and working with lots of different dj’s over the years, and you see something you like and take a little bit from each and roll it all into one. My fave DJ’s, there are numerous guys that are awesome but the guy I look up to the most is our very own Colin Candy! I have known him for many years and he knows how to rock a club, hence why he plays in some of the countries biggest venues. Other producers doing it for me are Freejak & Konkiri, both are producing cracking house. Besides dance music, I also love the Foo Fighters! 🙂

What other interests do you have besides DJing/presenting on the radio?

I have six children and a wife, so it’s hard trying to balance things sometimes and not look like a selfish dick! I like playing guitar and have recently started getting into watching films again. And 2016 I look to get back into producing tracks again, so watch this space…

Favourite things?

Wife, Children, S8 Controller, Macbook Pro, Traktor Pro 2. Dance UK lol

Sum yourself up in a sentence?

Anything else?

I used too produce hard house and had a record label called InsomniaTrax back in the day, not produced anything in a very long time and as I’ve grown older, my tastes have changed somewhat, House music is where it’s at folks!

Robski

What motivated you to start DJing/presenting?
The love of music. From the age of 7, I used to wire up 2 stereo systems at home and play records on both fading in on 1 stereo whilst fading out on the other. Then I started hearing 2 songs played together at the same time, beat matched – I wanted to get involved and at the age of 15 purchased my first pair of turntables.

What styles do you play?

In my own time, I play all different styles, which is why I am involved with both Box and Dance UK stations.
In clubs, I prefer to play DnB/Jungle. I used to DJ in nightclubs in Birmingham, but hated that when you did a party set and you didn’t play someone’s favourite – they came to have a drunken moan and wanted it playing now! (Sorry love, “I Will Survive” will not fit in to the new 90’s chart selection).

Do you mix or scratch or both? Or are you more of a presenter?

I mix and scratch – I mix my tunes whilst scratching my bollocks. Who said men can’t multitask! I could never get the trigger finger going at the right time with scratching, coordination of moving the record and the crossfader at different speeds seemed impossible.

Do you play on just one of danceradiouk.com’s stations or both?

I have played on many internet radio stations, some very popular ones, but once I found Dance UK/Box UK, there was only one station for me. I started on Dance UK only, but now have a regular slot on both Dance UK and Box UK.

Outside of danceradiouk.com, who are your favourite DJ’s, bands or music artists and how have they influenced your style (if they have)?

Favourite DJ’s – I love the old DJ Hype, Andy C – I say old because I don’t like the stuff they play today. How have they influenced me? Well they have tried to do ‘something different’ which is where I got the idea of mashups of rnb/dnb etc. I LOVE Madonna, liking the Pet Shop Boys productions too. The list could go on and on.

What other interests do you have besides DJing/presenting on the radio?

I enjoy hill walking, cycling, camping, photography – most things outdoors. I also enjoy a nice ale or two!

Favourite things?

Music, my kids, my life!

Sum yourself up in a sentence?
