Iain D’Mix

What motivated you to start DJing/presenting?
An early love of electronic dance music production and hip-hop from the birth of electro, through rave and then onto psytrance, combined with my rhythm skills as a drummer, lead me to the DJ booth. Performing and sharing music I love with others in live events on on-air has always been a passion, little beats it.
What styles do you play?
PsyTrance/AcidTrance (’94 onward), TechTrance, Breaks, DnB, Rave (1987-1992), Early historical Electro/Hip-Hop ’80-84 ish
Do you mix or scratch or both? Or are you more of a presenter?
Mainly mixing, but there will be scratching in places! 😀
Do you play on just one of danceradiouk.com’s stations or both?
Just the one for now 🙂 (although I do have a passion for all music non-dance related, so never say never!)
Outside of danceradiouk.com, who are your favourite DJ’s, bands or music artists and how have they influenced your style (if they have)?
DJ influences were probably Fabio & Grooverider pioneering DnB/Techno at Rage, London ’91: has had a deep lasting impact. Beyond that, as I moved to PsyTrance in the mid 90’s for years after, DJs from the Goa scene such as Raja Ram from TIP records, Tsuyoshi Suzuki (Return To The Source/Matsuri Recs) and Mike Maguire from Juno Reactor were all amazing. I don’t have specific DJ hero’s these days, but appreciate how many talented DJ’s are out there and enjoy their work and skills when I can!
What other interests do you have besides DJing/presenting on the radio?
I love event staging/lighting technology and have been learning projection and LED mapping over the years to ultimately compliment the musical experience – I do need an arena and a £1m LED wall to really do this however!). Drums/Guitar and synths in the production studio are things I enjoy playing too.
Favourite things?
Family, gardening, golf, drums and doughnuts – all at the weekend 🙂
Sum yourself up in a sentence?
Focussed, approachable, passionate & caring world citizen.
Your desert island discs?
Tough one!
The Infinity Project – Stimuli
Leftfield – Song of Life
Any Led Zeppelin/Fleetwood Mac
…almost impossible 😀
Anything else?
Grateful to be on the team and very much looking forward to getting going.
