Kas Page

What motivated you to start DJing/presenting?
I started radio at W963 while I was at Warwick Uni back in the early 90s. Mainly radio dramas (one with Stephen Merchant – wish I’d kept his number?!) I was there studying drama at the time. Since then, I’ve presented on community and hospital radio. Give me the mic!
What styles do you play?
Anything and everything on radio as it’s busy with requests, but when I’m mixing I love a bit of house. That said, I’ve done gigs recently that were soul, UKG and dance. Been spending time recently looking for new artists currently under the radar to give them some airtime too.
Do you mix or scratch or both? Or are you more of a presenter?
Learned to mix recently at Kent DJ Academy, now learning to scratch and been a presenter for years!
Do you play on just one of danceradiouk.com’s stations or both?
Just Dance UK at present.
Outside of danceradiouk.com, who are your favourite DJ’s, bands or music artists and how have they influenced your style (if they have)?
Music has always been essential – you need a soundtrack for life. My parents raised me on the classic 70s Fleetwood Mac and Neil Diamond. We lived in Canada at the time so lots of American soft rock. I’ve always soaked everything up. The 80s was a decade musical growth and crushes on pop stars and then serious clubbing in the 90s. Perfecto/Paul Oakenfold/ Todd Terry/ Fatboy Slim. Please don’t tell me how many years ago that is. I’m happy believing it was yesterday and I haven’t aged a day…!
Now keeping an eye on scratch DJs like Scratch Bastid, JFB and way too many others that flood my Instagram feed.
What other interests do you have besides DJing/presenting on the radio?
Anything creative – going to the theatre, being on stage in the theatre, making art, looking at art. Music in any way, shape or form… Mooching, pottering. Very happy when there’s the chance to do anything with a coffee in my hand.
Favourite things?
MUSIC, MUSIC, MUSIC…Dogs, sunshine, coffee, 130BPM, films, peace and like-minded people. Oh and good headphones.
Sum yourself up in a sentence?
Kas is probably short for chaos. Just trying to be the best human I can be before time’s up.
Your desert island discs?
Baz Luhrmann’s Sunscreen to keep me grounded and grateful.
Impossible to choose – what’s my mood? What’s the weather? Is my sock crumpled in my shoe? I need everything! Other than that – I’ll take my phone. (I fully understand that’s not how it works…)
Anything else?
And everything else. In no specific order… I’ll take it all.
