What motivated you to start DJing/presenting?
A friend introduced me to DJ’ing when I was about 14 and initially I just tinkered around with it for a few years. It wasn’t until I was about 17 that I started taking it seriously. I just really enjoyed it and felt very strongly that it was something I had to master. Thirty years later and I’m still learning…
What styles do you play?
At heart I’m a Freestyle/Experimental DJ and can mix pretty much most styles and appreciate all styles of music. However, I do love the deeper side of things and like to take the listener on a journey.
Do you mix or scratch or both? Or are you more of a presenter?
I’m 100% a mix DJ. My main mixer is a rotary but I also own a scratch mixer so maybe one day I will put the time in as I feel this is the final piece of the jigsaw to master.
Do you play on just one of danceradiouk.com’s stations or both?
Just Dance UK due to my tastes and style.
Outside of danceradiouk.com, who are your favourite DJ’s, bands or music artists and how have they influenced your style (if they have)?
When I first got into DJ’ing my favourite DJ’s were Ratty, SY and Top Buzz. After I transitioned out the hardcore scene and into house/techno/progressive I closely followed Billy Nasty as I’ve always appreciated that ruff and raw (no prisoners) style. After that I started to take an interest in the likes of Sasha/Digweed and Aphex Twin. They have ALL played a part in influencing my style. I’m always up for learning and absorbing new styles and methods of doing things.
What other interests do you have besides DJing/presenting on the radio?
Fishing. I love a bit of fishing, very relaxing…
My family. I’m very lucky in that respect.
Sum yourself up in a sentence?
Chilled, Easy going, Down to Earth.
Your desert island discs?
To be honest, it would have be stuff by ambient legends Steve Roach, Pete Namlook, Robert Rich etc.
