DJ Bertie
What motivated you to start DJing/presenting?
I think it was when I used to listen to all the pirate radio stations that were on during the 1980’s. I bought some turntables and a mixer from Tandy, my love of music started along with the buzz of buying new vinyl. I was hooked!
What styles do you play?
I love all types of house music but my go to music is deep house with some tech and normal house music thrown in.
Do you mix or scratch or both? Or are you more of a presenter?
I’ve never really mastered scratching at all but I love to mix all my music and of coarse don’t mind interacting with the audience.
Do you play on just one of danceradiouk.com’s stations or both?
Just one station at the moment, Dance UK.
Outside of danceradiouk.com, who are your favourite DJ’s, bands or music artists and how have they influenced your style (if they have)?
My favourite DJ’s are Sasha and Digweed. I bought a mix CD from Camden market many years ago and could not believe the mixing from track to track, its was mind blowing and after much research I found that they were mixing all the music harmonically. I try to replicate this in my sets and sometimes I’m able to do this (although not to their standard!). Musically they have played a big part in my style of mixing.
What other interests do you have besides DJing/presenting on the radio?
I enjoy fishing and I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to do this all over the world including Thailand just a few months ago.
Favourite things?
My laptop and my DJ equipment, but not as much as my girlfriend and my cat. (She made me put that last bit!)
Sum yourself up in a sentence?
I’m very hardworking and loyal but music is my passion, whether it’s mixing or just chilling out listening to music.
Your desert island discs?
It would have to be anything with Sasha and Digweed remixing or DJing
