What motivated you to start DJing/presenting?
My love for electronic music. I was exposed to house music at a very young age as well as Electro and 80’s Hip-Hop and have listened to this type of music all my life, so it was inevitable that I would have an interest in DJ’ing when I got older.
What styles do you play?
Techno, Progressive House, Acid House, US House, Breaks, all sorts really.
Do you mix or scratch or both? Or are you more of a presenter?
I mix and I don’t talk much, I hate the sound of my own voice, I prefer to let the music do the talking. I wish I could scratch but alas, I’m terrible at it, hahaha.
Do you play on just one of danceradiouk.com’s stations or both?
I’ll just be playing on Dance UK.
Outside of danceradiouk.com, who are your favourite DJ’s, bands or music artists and how have they influenced your style (if they have)?
How long have you got??? As a DJ, my influences range from Larry Levan and Afrika Bambaataa to John Digweed and Sven Väth, it’s an endless and varied list. When it comes to bands/artists, Prince, David Bowie, New Order, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, James Brown, Beastie Boys, The Chemical Brothers are a few to get started with but I’d say that’s an even bigger list than the DJ one.
What other interests do you have besides DJing/presenting on the radio?
Going clubbing, watching sport, watching movies, listening to music, especially new music, I’m also currently studying for my IT qualifications and of course, spending time with my lovely Wife. I’m also a massive beer enthusiast and love going to beer festivals.
My wedding ring and my CD’s. If there were a fire and my Mrs was out safely I’d try and save as many CD’s as I could.
Sum yourself up in a sentence?
A true, down to earth Northener.
Your desert island discs?
Dangerous question, I could get giddy here. I’ll pick eight like in the radio show. Prince – Purple Rain, DeLa Soul – 3 Feet High And Rising, Happy Mondays – Pills ‘N’ Thrills And Bellyaches, Sasha And John Digweed – Renaissance The Mix Collection, The Stone Roses – The Stone Roses, Trojan Records – This Is Trojan, David Bowie – The Man Who Sold The World, The Chemical Brothers – Exit Planet Dust.
